Scott Horton and Charles Kaiser have teamed up to bring you the news you need, five days a week.

Since the beginning of Trump II, even the most sophisticated news consumers have felt overwhelmed by a daily Tsunami of fearful developments. As the Atlantic observed, “The abiding feeling of 2026 is that too many consequential things are happening too fast for most people to follow, let alone understand.”

Knowledge is power. The Horton-Kaiser Report will guide you through this information overload with a quick analysis of all the stories we think matter most. We will give you a deeper understanding of the forces that have upended our world during the last fifteen months.

Above and beyond everything else, we are relentless critics of the press. We believe the frank fascism and the shameless corruption of the Trump administration make the old customs of deference incompatible with the kind of journalism we need right now. We do not believe there are two reasonable points of view about what this President is trying to accomplish.

We want everyone to do better, especially the big legacy outlets. We also think it’s impossible to understand the most important stories if you aren’t a regular consumer of the press beyond our shores.

Scott has noticed that particularly since the release of the Epstein files, the European press has done a much better job of mining them for information about everything Epstein was doing besides sex trafficking. “The reporting found in a number of British, French, Norwegian and German papers, serves to ask some unpleasant questions about US journalism addressing Epstein, much of which has rehashed the same subjects for two decades while failing to ask even the most obvious questions about who Epstein was serving and what his operations aimed to achieve. Tremendous headway on this subject has been made in just a couple of months in Europe. But American journalists continue to lag embarrassingly far behind.”

Horton is an author, a lawyer, a human rights activist, a long time contributor to Harper’s Magazine, and a voracious consumer of newspapers from a dozen countries, including Russia, France, Germany, Italy, Israel and Mexico.

We will use our catholic tastes to lighten our sharp criticisms. Besides the war news abroad and the terrorism practiced by ICE at home, we will cover everything from fine art to outer space. We will include great photography (especially from outer space) and even a weekly recipe. Plus a daily Moment of Online Zen.
